- Visual acuity testing is a covered service. CPT codes for visual acuity testing: 99173, 99174, and 99177. Visual acuity testing is separately reimbursable when performed in conjunction with a preventive medical code 99382, 99383, 99392, 99393 (for patients 3-5 years of age and school screenings).
- 99173 covers color vision testing as well.
- 99177 is for instrument-based ocular screening, e.g., photo screening.
