NOW PLAYING: Validating Techniques

I would not use any lens names, but a lot of my colleagues will say “Now that I switched to lens X my results will superior to anything else, anyone getting these other lenses.” I think it is incumbent upon doctors who are making those statements to validate their statements. Take measurements on your patients. If you want to make statements like that, given us data, I do means you have write a peer reviewed article but lets get some hard data behind statements that are suggesting that we are doing better with this technique. The same should apply to epi-LASIK, custom ablation, intraocular contact lenses all that kind of good stuff. I think as surgeons we need to monitor on our own progress, so this is not financial, this is not patient basis; it is our own ability to define the direction of improving our practice. Entirely for our own sake as surgeon and as practitioners, we need to know what we are doing. Most of this business is visual acuity that measures better. I am thrilled that I have it. I wish I measured it on every single person in this office and it is getting used more and more. It does take a little time to make these measurements and you get what you pay for. You really are getting an excellent indicator of your performance as a surgeon and you are getting an excellent indicator of what the patients are seeing with their vision before surgery.
